             A Workshop on Right to Information Act, 2005 was organized at Bhubaneswar today forenoon to sensitise the students of the Department. The Workshop was inaugurated by Sri Panchanan Kanungo, formerly Minister of State, Finance, Govt of Orissa. Noted social scientist and Advocate Sri Chittaranjan Behera and Sri Pradip Pradhan of ‘The Humanity’, Convener of the “Right to Food Campaign” discussed and analysed all the provisions of the Act and answered the questions raised by the students. Sri Rajaram Satapathy of ‘The Times Of India’ and Sri Amit Neogi, Guest Faculty explained the various aspects of the Act and possible inoperative parts were also analysed.

            The Workshop passed two Resolutions and requested the Coordinator, Prof S.N Mishra to send them to appropriate and competent authorities. The suggestions are enclosed. They should be incorporated into the proposed Rules.

-The Resolutions- 

1.                  It is resolved that the time-limit for the disposal of the complaint (Under Section 18) and of the Appeal (Under Section 19) by the Information Commission should be provided in the rules under the Act.

2.                  It is further resolved that there should not be any fee charged for inspection of records, files, documents etc. which are subject to suo moto disclosure by the Public Authorities under the Section 4 of the RTI Act.
